The Challenge
Three businesses, three systems, and a call centre holding it together.
The delivery business was operating restaurant, grocery and pharmacy orders through separate systems and a call centre. Customers couldn’t place one order across different types of stores.
Riders were dispatched over the phone, so nobody could tell a waiting customer where their order was.
The Solution
A connected digital ecosystem bringing the experience together, including customer, rider and operational functionality with features such as live rider tracking, group ordering and gifting.
Customer app
One basket, any kind of shop
Customers browse restaurants, grocers and pharmacies in the same app and add items from more than one shop to a single basket. The app splits the order behind the scenes, sends each shop only its own items, and charges one delivery fee.

Live tracking
You can see where your food is
Once a rider accepts, the customer watches the order move on a live map with a realistic arrival time. Support stopped fielding calls asking where an order was, because the answer is on the screen.

Group ordering and gifting
Ordering together, and sending a meal as a gift
A customer opens a group basket and shares a link so friends add their own items and the total splits automatically. The same engine powers gifting, where you pay for a meal and someone else chooses and receives it.

A signature detail
How one basket became many orders without confusing anyone
A multi shop basket is harder than it looks: three kitchens work at different speeds and the customer only wants one delivery. We built a small dispatcher that starts each shop at a calculated time so the last item is ready as the rider arrives, and shows the customer a single order with three quiet progress lines underneath.
- 1 One basket Items from three shops, one checkout, one fee.
- 2 Split into shop tickets Each shop sees only its own items and its own start time.
- 3 Staggered start Slow kitchen begins first so nothing sits cooling.
- 4 One rider, one journey Collection route ordered by readiness, then to the customer.

Why This Project Matters
Foodelo demonstrates the difference between building a single customer app and delivering a connected digital service. A multi-vendor delivery platform has to make the experience simple for the customer while coordinating merchants, orders, fulfilment, riders and administration behind the scenes.
Product Thinking Behind the Build
The challenge is not simply displaying products on a screen. The platform needs clear rules for baskets, vendors, order status, delivery progress and the different actions available to each user type. Those operational decisions shape the technology and the customer experience.
What Prospective Clients Can Take From It
If you are planning a marketplace, delivery platform or other multi-sided product, the lesson is to define the roles and workflows before adding every possible feature. A clear first release gives the team something real to operate and improve.
